Nestled in the heart of the Teign Valley, Fingle Bridge is a truly magical spot, surrounded by ancient woodland, towering trees, and calming sounds of the River Teign.
This beautiful National Trust location is perfect for dog walkers looking to immerse themselves in nature, with a mix of riverside paths and woodland trails to explore. The terrain is natural and uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
For those seeking a more challenging walk with incredible views, you can start at Castle Drogo and follow the Teign Gorge down to Fingle Bridge or take the climb in reverse, (but remember what comes up must come down!). As a circular route this is fairly strenuous and can take 2-2.5 hours depending on your speed, but it’s well worth it for the views, the crystal clear waters and dense ancient woodland not to mention the Fingle Bridge Inn offers a perfect spot to relax and refuel by the water.
There are designate splash points along the river for dogs, helping to protect the riverbanks while still allowing for a safe doggy paddle. At this time of year, the “Paws on Paths” message is also in place throughout the woodland to help protect ground-nesting birds and sensitive habitats.
- Parking at Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo is Pay & Display or free to National Trust members.
- Uneven, rocky woodland tracks
- Riverside and circular walking routes
- Designated dog splash zones
- “Paws on Paths” guidance in place
- Food, drink and toilet facilities at the Fingle Bridge Inn.
A stunning location for both gentle strolls and more adventurous walks.
